FarmStrong Foundation has distributed 1 909 791 tree seedlings over the past seven years—on farms, in classified forests, biodiversity enclosures, and surrounding areas—to support agroforestry and reforestation efforts in Côte d’Ivoire.
By providing farmers with high-quality tree seedlings to plant both on and around their plots, we promote sustainable land management and strengthen the resilience of farming communities to climate change.
Functions of Agroforestry Systems
- Leguminous species naturally improve soil through leaf fall.
- Fruit trees offer direct consumption or income through sales.
- Forest species provide valuable timber.

The nursery before and after – a 5-month difference
At the same time, farmers benefit from practical training on integrating trees into their farming systems, improving soil fertility, and increasing productivity. These trainings also help diversify income sources: many farmers already benefit from fruit and shade trees that support other crops.
The seedlings are carefully grown in local nurseries before being delivered to farmers. Early results show improved soil quality, increased shade for crops, and new economic opportunities.
To date, around 4 700 farmers from 45 communities have benefited from this program. Young people and women participate actively and are among the primary beneficiaries.
This initiative is part of FarmStrong’s broader mission: building resilient rural economies by supporting sustainable agriculture, protecting natural resources, and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
